Present paper analyses postmodern elements in T.S.Eliot’s poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. The poem is a mirror to the underlying existential crisis to postmodern man, but rather than putting a heroic face, poem presents a undignified compromise of the protagonist who is not ready even to utter the name of the crisis which is a defining element in his life; on the contrary he is more interested in toast and tea. The poem presents juxtaposition of paradoxes, rich in symbols and myths which are used to elaborate the meaninglessness and absurdity of human existence. Prufrock is thus not only an individual but a universal signified which has many word plays, names or signifiers but all leads to the impotence of man in this universe and an acceptance to the truth that man is not the center of higher plan and interrogates the existence of any such higher goal. The poem also presents grotesque realism of the disoriented and entanglement in the mundane existence.
