Title

Ecocriticism in Practice with Special Reference to Margaret Laurence’s The Diviners and Gita Mehta’s A River Sutra: An Ecological Perspective.

Abstract

Having analyzed the widening scope of ecocriticism and having understood some of the key concepts, it is essential to comprehend some of the vital knowledge of ecocriticism. The Eco critics opines that in order to unearth its effect on human nature and the natural world, literature must be thoughtfully and conscientiously studied so that it becomes easy to evaluate its contribution in the well being and abidance of humanity and also to figure out how it influence the relationship of human being with other genus and those who are around. This paper which has been studied from ecological perspective proves the fact that two diverse texts could be brought together under the common premise of ecocritical analysis. The River Sutra of Gita Mehta and The Diviners of Margaret Laurence highlights that river plays a very important role in human life as well as in maintaining the environment of the place no matter from where it emerges. Whether it is an Indian or Canadian, past or present, humans are knotted with rivers and vice-a-versa and are hence continue to draw attention.
