A literary work has an important part in the name of characters. A different type of characters is presented by literature which are perceived in real life too. Visages of a myriad of characters are painted by Shakespeare and its reflection can be seen through ages. The characters which were portrayed in the Elizabethan age find an echo in the modern age. There are several traits which have always been prevalent in the human world like vacillation, vaulting ambition, shrewdness etc. The modern people possess the above traits as genuinely as did the Elizabethan people. One’s craving and indecisiveness are true throughout the ages. One’s situations and its virtue make one cunning and is also ensnared by the feelings of faithlessness and excessive passion for someone or somebody. Man has always been dominated through these traits. This article presents a comparative analysis of the works of Shakespeare and Modern writers focusing on the similarity between the two. The traits-vacillation, obsession, shrewdness, mistrust, vaulting ambition, highlighted in the works of Shakespeare are echoed in modern literature.
