About 0.6oC increase in temperature is noticed during last 100 years which is believed to increase further in coming years, accompanied by changes in other weather conditions and phenomena. Insect, being the poikilothermic organism, is affected by these changes directly or indirectly. The increased carbon dioxide and ozone concentration cause changes in quality and quantity of host plant and thus indirectly affect the insect pest population. Global warming is one of the major changes that terrestrial ecosystems will experience in the forthcoming years. It affects insect either directly through change in physiology and behaviour or insect or indirectly through changes in host plant and natural enemy population. Global warming is predicted to have effect on rainfall resulting in drought and flooding which will have direct effect on insect outbreaks.
