Abstract To provide an introductory exposure, various schemes for image segmentation are studied and presented. The image segmentation schemes based on registration methods, transfer learning method, texture based method and fuzzy rule based method are reviewed and presented. Further, segmentation techniques for images using estimation of spatial density, technique employed in imaging protocols, method based on fuzzy c means algorithm and scheme based on watershed algorithm have also been discussed and presented. This study is going to provide preliminary information for image segmentation schemes.
