Abstract The various techniques for enhancement of images have been discussed and presented in this work. The techniques for the enhancement of the images based on diffusion processes, algorithms based on partial differential equations, method based on first derivative along with the use of local statistics and scheme based on multi-rate sampling have been reviewed discussed in detail. Further, method of enhancement for images based on aligned images, method based on fast adaptive binning and technique based on local and global methods are also reviewed and illustrated.
