The drilling economics is directly related to the over all well cost achieved after the completion of the well. The drilling cost depends upon the cumulative cost per foot drilling of the well. The non-rotating time on the rig always increase the well cost. It has been estimated that 60% of trip time, 80% of cementing time and 90% of waiting on cement time may be eliminated by proper planning of time-sharing programs. These and other savings may amount to about 34% of total rig time for an offshore directional well. Attempts are being made to achieve economical drilling by (a) higher energy input to the bit and (b) minimization of non-productive rig time.
