Title

Isolation, Identification and Indexing of Gram +ve bacteria from common edible fish gut and to evaluate their potential

Abstract

Abstract Aquaculture provides 48% of aquatic animal food for human consumption. Fish is an important source of food for humans. According to FAO, fish provides about 60% of animal protein consumed by humans. Infectious diseases caused by the bacterial species like Pseudomonas, Vibrio and Aeromonas species pose great threat to this industry due to increased mortality of fish. This has led to the use of anti-microbial drugs to encounter such problems. Although antimicrobial drugs, antibiotics chemical additives and veterinary additives have significant effect to treat infected animals and to enhance the growth of animals, but their enormous use has led to the emergence of antibiotic resistant bacteria and is a risk of transference of antibiotic resistant bacteria from aquatic to human environment so, there is a need to develop alternative to the use of antimicrobial drugs and probiotics are one such alternative Probiotics are “Live micro-organisms which, when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host.” Probiotics for aquatic usage are different from those of terrestrial environment. Aquatic animals have a much closer interaction with the external environment. This study is based on isolation of Gram positive bacteria from common Indian carps and evaluate their potential as antagonistic and drug resistance.
