Title

Design of Transmission System for Improving Performance of GO-KART

Abstract

A transmission is a device or machine that consists of power source and power transmission system, which provides controlled application of the power. Often the term transmission refers simply to the gear box that uses gears and gear trains to provide speed and torque conversion from a rotating power source to another machine device. The dynamics of a car vary with speed at low speeds. In this paper the acceleration of the Go- Kart is optimized by changing the final reduction ratio. The acceleration of any vehicle is always based on the torque output of the vehicle on wheel, and the proper traction of the tire and the road. The torque output is only changed by the primary and secondary gear ratios which are already inbuilt in engine. But the final drive (Engine to drive shaft) ratio can be optimized as per requirements. The max torque that can be transferred to the wheel is calculated by the theory of wheel slip. Because after wheel slip no more torque can be transmitted, so here the critical point is the wheel slip. After calculating the optimum final reduction ratio, a proper design is made in Creo software and analysis of drive shaft, sprocket and chain has been done in ANSYS.
