Gig economy is one of the largest yet the most unorganized labor market prevailing in the contemporary times. It is characterized by temporary, flexible work arrangements because of which it has gained remarkable traction in India, transforming how individuals earn livelihoods and businesses operate. Gig work encompasses diverse forms of employment outside of traditional employer-employee relationships. Conventionally, workers in this economy function as independent contractors. More often than not, their means of engagement is through digital platforms or apps to perform tasks such as food delivery, ride-hailing, personal care, a diverse area of household work and other on-demand services.
