Abstract
Sustainable farming practices are highly needed to ensure the long-term viability of our present day farming systems, food security, environmental protection, healthy life on the planet, socio-economic development and to challenge the expanding global population and climate change. It’s main goal is farming in a sustainable way to meet the present needs of the society without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs(Brundtland, 1987). One of the best ways to mitigate climate change is to create sustainable food systems based on sustainable agriculture. This paper explores sustainable farming practices such as crop diversification, organic farming, agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, precision farming and Integrated Pest Management(IPM). Innovations in agriculture is the hope for the future farming for achieving the resilient, sustainable, productive agriculture and food systems.
Furthermore, the integration of Agritech innovations, including farm automation, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) in Agriculture, and blockchain, use of agrirobotics and drones has revolutionized modern agriculture by maximizing the farm productivity and resource efficiency. The paper highlights case studies and real-world applications of adoption of these sustainable farming practices by the farmers. By integrating sustainable farming practices with modern technology, agriculture can be transformed into a more resilient and eco-friendly sector ensure global food security and environmental sustainability. By optimizing inputs and resource efficiency, farmers can reduce production costs and increase profitability. The adoption of sustainable intensification practices can create employment opportunities, promote value addition and enhance market access for farmers. The paper also discusses on the challenges in the adoption of these environmentally friendly farming practices and future prospects.
Governments and International organizations are recognizing the importance of sustainable agricultural development. Policies and regulations are being enacted to support sustainable practices, incentivize conservation, and promote climate-friendly agriculture. Several international commitments focus on promote on sustainable farming methods, primarily through agreements like UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement, provide frameworks for global collaboration and action on sustainable agriculture. The paper also discusses on the initiatives by the Govt. of India to support organic agriculture, improve production quality, and strengthen the resilience of farming systems and to promote sustainable agriculture across the country.
