India can always boast of its rich cultural heritage. Travel and Tourism in India is an integral part of Indian tradition and culture. Ecotourism is making significant positive contribution to the environmental, social, cultural and economic well-being of destinations and local communities around the world and it is the growing segment of the global tourism industry. Tourism is the most important industry in the service sector of the Indian economy. It is one of the world’s fastest growing industry and it can play role in accelerating the economic development of the country is widely recognized. It has generated a number of social and economic benefits, promotes national integration and international understanding, and creates employment opportunities to a large number of people and foreign exchange earnings. Tourism also supports local handicrafts and cultural activities. For many developing countries, particularly the small countries they are mainly dependent upon tourism; this tourism offers a more reliable source of income to them. It is also an effective vehicle for empowering local communities around the world to fight against poverty and to achieve sustainable development. Furthermore, Ecotourism has provided an impetus to assist in greening the tourism industry on many fronts. India has focused on the concept of Ecotourism.
