Title

Competency Frameworks in a Changing Business Landscape: A Strategic Approach to Workforce Development

Abstract

Abstract A competency framework is a structured model that defines the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviors required for effective job performance. This paper explores the key components of a competency framework, including organizational, functional, and domain-specific competencies. It highlights the importance of structured pre-implementation steps in competency-based training, such as competency mapping, assessment, analysis, and targeted training planning. A crucial aspect of this framework is identifying competency gaps through structured assessments conducted by Heads of Departments (HODs) using Likert scales, psychometric tests, or theoretical and practical evaluations. These methodologies enable organizations to align training initiatives with workforce development needs and strategic objectives. By integrating these structured practices, organizations can enhance workforce capabilities, improve performance, and foster a skilled and adaptable workforce. This study provides a roadmap for organizations seeking to implement effective competency-based training and skill development initiatives.
