Title

Antibacterial Efficacy of Murraya koenigii (L.) against Water Borne Pathogens

Abstract

The present investigation focused on the toxicological efficacy of essential oil of Murraya koenigii (L.). The oil was extracted from the leaves using the hydro-distillation method. Further, its toxicological efficacy was evaluated against Escherichia coli (MTCC-723), Klebsiella pneumoniae (MTCC-4032), Salmonella typhimurium (MTCC-3231), and Vibrio cholerae (MTCC-3906). The toxicological efficacy of the essential oil was found to be highest against S. typhimurium. Inhibitory activity was also observed against K. pneumoniae and E. coli (MTCC-723). The least activity was recorded against V. cholerae. Hence, the essential oil from the leaves of M. koenigii exhibits great potential for the development of eco-friendly, non-toxic, cost-effective antibacterial herbal drug formulations.
