As India advances toward the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat vision, addressing the growing burden of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes is crucial. This systematic review aims to assess the current state of diabetes-related knowledge among Indian populations and identify regional, demographic, and educational disparities. A structured bibliographic review was conducted using Scopus, Google Scholar, and PubMed databases, following systematic review. Studies published between 1966 and 2024 focusing on urban Indian populations were included. Out of an initial broad search, 14 relevant articles were analyzed. The review revealed a significant increase in research on diabetes knowledge post-2006, with the majority of publications emerging after 2017. Despite growing awareness, major knowledge gaps and misconceptions persist, especially among socioeconomically disadvantaged groups. The findings underscore the need for culturally appropriate, grassroots-level educational interventions, integrated into existing public health strategies. Enhanced diabetes literacy is essential for effective disease prevention, early diagnosis, and long-term management, aligning with India's broader goals of sustainable health development and equitable healthcare access.
