The exponential growth of scholarly publications has rendered traditional manual systematic literature reviews (SLRs) increasingly labor-intensive and time-consuming. This article evaluates the efficacy of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in automating and accelerating the SLR process. By analyzing current AI applications in citation screening, data extraction, and thematic synthesis, the study assesses how machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) algorithms can reduce human workload while maintaining methodological rigor. The paper identifies key benefits, such as significant time savings and improved discovery of interdisciplinary connections, alongside critical challenges including algorithmic transparency and the risk of selection bias. We argue that while AI cannot replace human expertise in critical appraisal, it serves as a vital augmentative tool for mapping complex knowledge landscapes.
