Title

Usage of Hindi in Online and Digital Platforms: Opportunities and Challenges in E-Commerce

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technologies and internet penetration has significantly transformed the landscape of commerce and communication in India. In this digital ecosystem, language plays a critical role in shaping user accessibility, engagement, and participation in online markets. Hindi, being one of the most widely spoken languages in India, has emerged as a powerful medium for digital communication and e-commerce expansion. The increasing adoption of Hindi across online platforms, mobile applications, and digital marketing channels has created new opportunities for businesses to reach diverse consumer groups, particularly in rural and semi-urban regions. This study examines the role of Hindi in online and digital platforms with a specific focus on e-commerce development. Using a descriptive and analytical research approach, the study analyzes both primary and secondary data to evaluate the opportunities and challenges associated with Hindi language integration in digital environments. The findings indicate that the use of Hindi significantly enhances customer engagement, improves accessibility, and supports digital inclusion. However, issues such as translation accuracy, technological limitations, lack of standardized terminology, and digital literacy barriers continue to affect the effective implementation of Hindi in digital platforms. The study concludes that strengthening language localization strategies and adopting Artificial Intelligence–based language technologies can enhance the role of Hindi in digital commerce and contribute to the inclusive growth of India's digital economy.
