Title

Factors Affecting Female Teaches Participation in Government Primary School Leadership in: case of Jigjig City Administration, Somali Regional State

Abstract

ABSTRACT The main purpose of this study is to identify factors that affect female teachers’ Participation in government primary schools leadership of jigjig City Administration With this, an attempt was made to forward possible solutions for this problems. to conduct this study a descriptive survey design was employ. The target population of the study was 271. A total sample population 162(60%) respondents: 11 principals, 11’supervisors,1 Woman and child affairs office and 5 Woreda educational office were involved to study this. The data were collected by using questionnaire, interview and document analysis. Both quantitative and qualitative data analysis were employed in order to reach at results. The findings of the study revealed; higher officials make gender bias while selecting school leader; lack of special support to females to win competition for leadership position in the education system of the town; they were strong in making decision; females are less participated as both heads and deputy head teachers: females have capability to lead primary school; men consider women as their equal counterparts; females assume that they will not be successful in leading school; females do not have plan and set the promotion goals to be school leader. Some of the challenges which could hinder women representation in school leadership were for instance, pressure of home responsibilities, men dominance of management position, unclear promotion procedures. In the finding, the participants of the study also justified the following as the possible solution for the factors that affect female teacher’s participation in government primary school leadership. These are providing training for female(Mentoring), gender awareness campaign, gender fairness in school leadership position, fighting traditions that hinder the progress of female, ,discourage societal discrimination, change family traditional structure(societal support), sensitize society to accept female leadership, women should be self-confident females self -motivation. Questionnaires were distributed= to all sample female and male teachers and were duly filled and returned with the return rate of 162(60%) out of 271, eleven (11) government primary schools in Jigjiga city administration was selected systematic sampling from 34 government primary schools with interval of two from the list of schools. After deeply investigating above stated problems the researcher factor affecting found that Females‟ teachers participation in government at primary school in leadership position was not found at the Appropriate level of expected.
