Abstract: The realm of adverbs or adverbials in English is very fascinating. There is a variety of adverbs in English. They can occupy the three positions: initial, mid, and final. Their position in the clause or sentence depends on their type. And the length of the object can affect the position of the adverb in the clause/sentence. The meaning of the clause largely depends on the position of the adverb. An adverb may perform five syntactic functions: modifying a verb, another adverb, a noun or a noun phrase, an adjective and a complete sentence. In English the only adverb which can perform all the five function is really. Semantically, the same adverb can express different meanings. In other words, the same adverb can be used as a manner adverb, as a degree adverb, and as a sentence adverb. Thus, we find adverbial homonyms.
