This study determined the livelihood engagement of farmers and used this as the basis for crafting a Contextualized Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP) modules for Grade 5 learners in Canaman Central School, Canaman District, Division of Camarines Sur school year 2022-2023. It answered (1) the level of livelihood engagement of farmers in terms of vegetable planting, fisheries, and livestock; (2) the design of the enhanced module to improve the lessons in Agriculture in terms of objectives, learning content, activities, and assessment; (3) the curricular validity of the enhanced module in Agriculture in terms of face, content, and construct validity; (4) the significant differences in the level of livelihood engagement of farmers among aspects.
This study employed a descriptive-qualitative-comparative method and research and development to address the research questions. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to gather the data from 30 respondents, and an evaluation checklist was used by the 15 validators for the curricular validity of the contextualized module. The data were treated statistically through weighted mean and ANOVA.
The major findings: (1) the level of livelihood engagement of farmers in terms of vegetable planting got an overall average weighted mean of 2.62; (2) the crafted enhanced contextualized modules were designed according to objectives, learning content, activities, and assessment; (3) the curricular validity of the enhanced contextualized modules had an overall average weighted mean of 2.82; (4) the differences of livelihood engagement of farmers between vegetable planting and fisheries attained a mean difference of 1.32; fisheries and livestock, the mean difference was 1.10; both with a p-value of 0.000; between vegetable planting and livestock the mean difference was 0.21, and a p-value of 0.242.
Major conclusions: (1) the level of livelihood engagement of farmers in terms of vegetable planting, livestock, and fisheries described as sometimes they were engaged; (2) the curriculum design includes objectives derived from the Most Essential Learning Competencies, concise learning content summaries, three to four activities per unit, and assessments covering matching, fill-in-the-blanks, and identification types of tests; (3) the curricular validity of the contextualized module was moderately valid; (4) the differences of livelihood engagement of farmers between vegetable planting and fisheries; fisheries and livestock were significant; and, between vegetable planting and livestock it was not significant.
