Abstract

Challenges and Coping Strategies of BS Customs Administration Graduates in the Philippine Licensure Examination Abstract: This study investigates the challenges encountered and coping strategies employed by Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration (BSCA) graduates preparing for the Customs Brokers Licensure Examination (CBLE) in the Philippines. A descriptive-correlational research design was implemented with a sample of 71 BSCA graduates from Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Inc (2021-2024). Data, gathered via survey questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (mean, weighted mean, Pearson's r, coefficient of determination), aimed to determine CBLE performance levels, the intensity of challenges, the effectiveness of coping strategies, and the relationships between these variables. Results indicated an average CBLE performance of 79.84%, classified as "Good." Participants reported moderately encountered personal (mean=2.62) and institutional (mean=2.49) challenges. Correlation analysis revealed non-significant relationships between challenges and performance. However, personal coping strategies demonstrated a positive association with CBLE performance (r=0.8085). Regression analysis indicated that coping strategies significantly influenced performance outcomes (R²=72%). These findings underscore the importance of adaptive coping mechanisms in navigating challenges associated with the CBLE. The study concludes with a policy recommendation framework designed to enhance institutional support systems and foster resilience among BSCA graduates, thereby optimizing CBLE preparedness and professional success. This research contributes empirical evidence to the under-examined area of customs administration education, providing actionable insights for curriculum enhancement and targeted support services.
