Title

Stress management experiences across generations of public elementary school teachers in Catanauan district I and II, Division of Quezon and its effects to their teaching practices

Abstract

This study examines how public elementary school teachers in Catanauan District I and II, Division of Quezon, have managed stress over generations and how this has affected their teaching practices. It also covered the different sources of stress as well as the coping strategies of teachers to address the stress they encountered. This study employed the cluster sampling technique because the researcher deemed it a good choice for a large and dispersed population. The total population was from the 13 public elementary schools in Catanauan District I and the 15 public elementary schools in Catanauan District II and after the clustering, the sample size was determined. The study was conducted during the second quarter of the school year 2024-2025. It utilized a descriptive quantitative research design to understand the stress management experiences of teachers and their effect on their teaching practices. It is concluded in the study that while stress management experiences at home and within the work environment affect teaching practices, the community plays a crucial role. Teachers who experience supportive stress management within their community tend to perform better in the classroom. This finding emphasized the importance of a teacher’s broader support network beyond the school environment. The study found that the most significant coping strategies for predicting teaching success are related to the work environment. Effective stress management at work is associated with higher teaching outcomes for teachers. It emphasized how important it is for teachers to provide a safe, manageable, and encouraging work environment. On the other hand, the lack of significant effects from home-related stress management experiences and community-related coping strategies suggested that while these factors may contribute to a teacher’s overall well-being, they do not directly influence teaching practices like workplace stress management and coping strategies do. It underscored the need for schools to be the central environment in supporting teachers’ professional growth and stress management. Based on the study’s results, the researcher developed a proposed management intervention program to enhance teachers’ ability to cope with stress effectively within the school environment. Additionally, lowering stressors that impair teaching effectiveness will strengthen the external network for stress management, increase community support for teachers, and cultivate a more favorable learning environment.
