Title

The Management of Catch-Up Fridays Implementation in Catanauan District II, Division of Quezon: Basis for the Development of Supplemental Implementing Guidelines

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the implementation of Catch-Up Fridays in Catanauan District II, Division of Quezon, as the basis for the development of supplemental guidelines. The mixed-methods design was utilized in the study using a researcher-made questionnaire and interview guide as the primary tools for gathering necessary data. This was limited to the public elementary and secondary schools in Catanauan District II, where 292 teachers and 10 school heads participated in. This research was conducted from fourth quarter of school year 2023-2024 to first quarter of school year 2024-2025. Based on the results, schools adhere to the stipulated time frame for reading programs such as DEAR, showing commitment to reading practice. However, scheduled variations indicate the necessity for flexibility, especially in addressing attendance concerns. Teachers adopt thematic assignments but may find further assistance helpful in maintaining consistency across grade levels. They successfully utilize collaborative teaching practices, including materials like digital texts and technology-based aids. Teachers are moderately supported in putting on programs such as Catch-Up Fridays, conducting professional development, and inter-working with their peers. Stakeholder participation is, however, minimal, with local community and parental participation being the primary sources of contribution. School heads are vital in facilitating program implementation through stakeholders' involvement, technical assistance, and resource allocation. Inadequate training, time limitations, lack of funds, and absenteeism are countered through interactive activities and team-building opportunities, fostering student participation.
