Title

“A study to assess the effectiveness of aerobic exercises on primary dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls attending selected schools of Bathinda, Punjab”.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of aerobic exercise on level of primary dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls in selected schools of Bathinda. Quasi experimental pre-test post-test with control group research design was adopted for this study and100 adolescent girls who met the inclusion criteria of the study were selected by purposive sampling technique. The selected sample was divided into two groups (experimental and control group): 50 students were in experimental group and 50 students were in control group. Data was collected by using WaLIDD scale to assess the level of primary dysmenorrhea. After pre- assessment of primary dysmenorrhea, aerobic exercise was performed with experimental group for 8 weeks (3 days in a week). Results showed the pre-test and post-test Mean and SD of level of primary dysmenorrhea among experimental group was 8.68 ± 3.126 and 6.66 ± 3.028 respectively. The calculated 't value 6.523 was higher than that of table value 2.00 at df 49 and the result was found to be significant at 0.05 level of significance. It showed that the aerobic exercise as effective in improving the level of primary dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls. On comparison of effectiveness of aerobic exercise on level of primary dysmenorrhea between experimental group and control group, results showed that the post-test mean and SD of level of primary dysmenorrhea among experimental and control group was 6.66 ± 3.028 and 9.08± 2.856 respectively. The post-interventional calculated T value 4.111 was higher than that of table value 1.98 at df 98 and the result was found to be significant at p < 0.05 level of significance. There was statistically significant association between post-test level of primary dysmenorrhea with their selected socio-demographic variables (father’s occupation and family monthly income) among experimental and control group.
