Title

RISK MANAGEMENT IN REVERSE LOGISTICS OF ELEVATOR SPARE PARTS AND COMPONENTS

Abstract

This study examines risk management in the reverse logistics of elevator spare parts and components, focusing on operational challenges that affect service continuity, cost efficiency, and safety. Reverse logistics in the elevator industry involves processes such as collection, inspection, refurbishment, testing, and reintegration of components, which are highly sensitive to delays and uncertainties. The research adopts an exploratory and descriptive design using primary data collected from industry professionals across procurement, warehouse, and quality functions. Secondary data from academic and industry sources support the analysis. Key risks were evaluated using Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and a probability–impact risk matrix. Findings indicate that critical risks include obsolete spare parts, supplier approval delays, inspection errors, limited testing capacity, and high emergency procurement costs. The study highlights that process inefficiencies, coordination gaps, and data inaccuracies contribute more significantly to risk exposure than technical failures. The research proposes practical mitigation strategies such as improved supplier coordination, standardized inspection procedures, capacity enhancement, and digital tracking systems. These recommendations aim to enhance the reliability, responsiveness, and efficiency of reverse logistics operations in the elevator industry.
