Abstract
The escalating need for sophisticated electromagnetic interference shielding materials in medical settings may motivate the
innovation of advanced composites designed to attenuate electromagnetic radiation effectively. This investigation examines the
synthesis and characterization of iron oxide nanoparticles integrated into an epoxy resin matrix, emphasizing their performance in
shielding electromagnetic waves. Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, produced through coprecipitation, were embedded in epoxy
resin to form lightweight, absorption-dominant shields targeting microwave frequencies (Sparavigna, 2023). This strategy appears
to amplify electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness by exploiting the intrinsic attributes of magnetic nanoparticles, such
as Fe₃O₄, in polymer matrices, potentially rendering them suitable for high-frequency field mitigation (Sparavigna, 2023). The
uniform dispersion of Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles in the epoxy fosters a conductive network, which may boost electromagnetic interference
shielding effectiveness via synergistic electrical and magnetic losses (Sparavigna, 2023). The study delineates the structural
properties and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of these composites, projecting their utility in curbing
interference within sensitive medical contexts. Such materials may be pivotal for protecting electronics and personnel from
ubiquitous electromagnetic radiation. This paper elucidates the synthesis, characterization, and EMI shielding efficacy of these
innovative composites, underscoring their promise for cutting-edge applications, particularly in the X-band where hybrid
nanostructures modulate epoxy composite shielding (Bheema & Etika, 2022). Agglomeration of iron oxide nanoparticles in epoxy
resin is a significant challenge due to high surface energy and magnetic properties, necessitating specialized dispersion techniques
(Naguib et al., 2019). Furthermore, Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles, endowed with high saturation magnetization and low resistivity, impart
dual magnetic and electrical attributes, refining microwave absorption (Ramajo et al., 2009). This facilitates a shift in shielding from
reflection to absorption, modulated by filler selection, yielding adaptable responses (Sparavigna, 2023). Systematically probing
nanoparticle loading and dispersion synergies may optimize attenuation mechanisms in the X-band. This inquiry may advance
understanding of engineering magnetic nanocomposites for exceptional EMI SE in vital sectors, notably via Fe₃O₄/TAGA
integration in epoxy, harnessing dielectric-magnetic loss synergy for impedance matching (Chhetri & Kuila, 2024).
