Title

Educational Aspirations, Career Aspirations, and Academic Achievement in Relation to Socio-Economic Status of Secondary School Students

Abstract

This research investigates the relationship between socio-economic status (SES) and the educational aspirations, career aspirations, and academic achievement of secondary school students in Ghaziabad. The study examines the influence of SES on students' aspirations and performance, providing insight into the disparities that exist within this context. A sample of 200 students from ten secondary schools (five private and five government) in Ghaziabad was selected. The study used the Socio-Economic Status Scale (SESS-BR), Educational Aspiration Scale (EAS-SG), Occupational Aspiration Scale (OAS-G), and academic performance data from students’ previous annual exams. Descriptive statistics and Pearson's product-moment correlation 'r' were used for data analysis. The results reveal significant correlations between SES and students' aspirations and academic achievement, highlighting implications for educators and policymakers.
