Title

PROBLEMS IN TEACHER EDUCATION

Abstract

It is well known that the quality and extent of learner achievement are determined primarily by teacher competence,sensitivity and teacher motivation.The role of teachers in providing quality education can not be neglected keeping in view that quality education plays an important role in one’s life as quality education helps a person to be socially acceptable and economically sound by way of more job opportunities.A true teacher stimulates students to gain knowledge by guiding them considering every students mind,capability,behaviour etc.Nowadays there is a drastic change in teaching learning process.There has been a shift towards student centered class rooms with teachers role more as a facilitator of learning than a dictatorial master.This drastic change has made the teachers job even tougher.In the past the teacher was entrusted to transfer the contents of curriculul to a passive audience of students,but today new experiments are being tried out in the class rooms that includes project based learning,development of thinking skills etc.The responsibility of making good teachers lies upon teacher education.If we want good teachers we will have to work upon strengthening our teacher education system.Therefore improvement of teacher education is the first step that is required for updating the whole education system.
