The psychosocial burden on women with cervical cancer refers to the important tasks of assessing and controlling the individual effects of diagnosis and treatment on all women and their caregivers. Fear of cancer diagnosis is a normal and expected reaction. Although the experience of anxiety is general, intensity and duration of anxiety vary with the prognosis, social situation of the patient, and morbidity associated with the treatment. The symptoms of high anxiety may persist even in patients with a favorable prognosis long after the end of treatment. For patients with cervical cancer, unique factors are associated with their emergency experience. The psychosocial problems that accompany the diagnosis of cervical cancer are often old and rooted. Social workers, clinical psychologists, and care coordinators need to be familiar with the diverse community support services that can be offered alongside the cancer treatment team to help women and their families cope with the associated problems diagnosing and treating cervical cancer.
