Title

Crack Growth Analysis Of Lug Joint

Abstract

ABSTRACT Lugs are joint type elements most widely used as structural supports for pin connections type assemblies. Lug and pin joints have been designed based on theoretical strength of the material models and experimental data developed in the 1950’s. With the increasing technology in mathematics usage of numerical methods like finite element analysis (FEA) code components can be tested virtually. In present project crack growth analysis performed on lug joint using MSC Patran and MSC Nastran software. In order to initiate crack region of highest stress applied is found by stress analysis by applying considerable load on inner radius of lug. At the highest stress experienced node crack is initiated with considerable crack length. Modified Virtual Crack Closure Integral (MVCCI) technique which is used for calculating stress intensity factor for crack analysis.
