Title

INTERNET USAGE AMONG SENIOR SECONDARY STUDENTS IN RELATION TO SELF REGULATED LEARNING, SOCIAL SUPPORT AND ALIENATION

Abstract

Home, these days, computers, video games, and the Internet are an essential aspect of young people's lives. According to the 2002 Gallup survey (quoted in Whitlock, Powers, and Eckenrode, 2006), young people prefer the Internet to other forms of communication like TV, telephone, and radio. According to the survey, parents purchase home computers and pay for Internet access so they may give their kids access to newer, better educational resources and chances. Even though these parents are increasingly worried about the negative effects of the internet on their kids because their kids use it to play games, download songs, and look at pictures of their favourite celebrities, they believe that this kind of internet use is preferable to watching television and that their kids would suffer and perform worse without computers and the internet (Kraut et al.1998). Internet is therefore both helpful and potentially dangerous to young kids. It offers advantages in terms of social, cognitive, and physical development, but it also introduces problems including cyberbullying, addiction, and sexual solicitations. We cannot live without the Internet in our daily lives, despite the fact that it can sometimes have negative effects. Young school pupils in India are increasingly feeling alienated. Adolescents' social mixing and tuning, interests, and self-perceptions are negatively impacted by stress, strain, and setbacks brought on by psychological and physical changes. Adolescents' perceptions of social support function as a cushion and a protective force against issues in this unfavourable scenario face
