Title

A study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Program on knowledge regarding Importance of olive oil Massage in Low-Birth-Weight babies among II Year GNM students in SCPM College of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences Gonda U.P.

Abstract

Infancy is an earliest period of life especially before child can walk. In this period child care depends on the understanding of parents, about the growth and development of child. Growth can be assessed through anthropometric measurements. Infant massage is the process of rubbing an infant’s muscles and stroking the infants in a manner specifically designed for them. Although there are professionally trained and certified infant therapists, the obvious first choice to massage the baby is the mother, father and grand parents or guardians. Equally important are the people who care for children outside the home, such as nurses. The main objective to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching program on knowledge regarding Importance of olive oil Massage in Low Birth Weight babies among II Year GNM students in SCPM College Of Nursing And Paramedical Sciences Gonda U.P Method:- A quantitative evaluative research approach, Pre-experimental one group Pre-Test and Post-Test research design was used. The sample size was 40 students were selected using Purposive sampling technique. Initially the researcher got permission from concerned authority of SCPM College of Nursing. The written consent was obtained from samples. The tool used were, Performa of demographical variable, self-structured knowledge questionnaire. Assessment of pre-existing level of knowledge done by administering knowledge questionnaire after that on same day Structured Teaching Programme on knowledge regarding Importance of olive oil Massage in Low-Birth-Weight babies given. After 7 days post-test was conducted by the researcher. Result-The result of the study revealed that there was significant difference between the mean Pre-Test (12.00) and Post-Test (19.32) knowledge scores, it denotes that increased knowledge level after intervention. Conclusion-The study concluded that the Structured Teaching Programme was effective in enhancing knowledge of students about Importance of olive oil massage in LBW babies and that was more effective and beneficial for them.
