The handloom industry has a proud place in rural economy. In India, about 10 million people directly depend on the industry for their livelihood, while many more millions of people depend on subsidiary occupation connected with the handloom industry. Female organized handloom workers form a substantial workforce, contributing their skills and labor to the production of exquisite handcrafted textiles. The present study examines the socio economic status of female organized workers in handloom industry. This study is based on 50 samples from handloom women workers in Kannur. The study found that socio economic lives of large number of workers are deplorable.
