The development of the Right to Information (RTI) and human rights in India has been significantly influenced by Public Interest Litigation (PIL). This abstract delves into the evolution of Public Interest Litigation and its significant role in promoting accountability, transparency, and the safeguarding of fundamental rights. PILs have been instrumental in historic cases addressing everything from environmental conservation to custodial torture, stemming from a progressive interpretation of the right to petition the courts in the public interest. It has also played a significant role in establishing precedents that protect human rights. In order to further the interconnected causes of the Right to Information and human rights, PILs' ongoing engagement with new issues, such as digital rights and healthcare access, highlights its dynamic role in fostering a more transparent, accountable, and rights-conscious society.
