Title

Awareness of SWAYAM MOOCs among Women Faculty of Higher Educational Institutions

Abstract

(Acknowledgement: The present research article is the result of ICSSR Major Research Project awarded during 2022-23.) Abstract: Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are becoming more and more well-known and are still very important in the higher education sector. A relatively new paradigm of teaching and learning that greatly enhances ongoing lifelong learning in India is the delivery of MOOCs via SWAYAM. To spread the concept of SWAYAM MOOCs Government of India has been conducting much awareness and training programs on MOOCs to ensure SWAYAM MOOCs concept reaches every corner of India. This study examines the awareness of MOOCs and SWAYAM platform among women faculty of higher educational institutions. The objectives of this piece of research is to study the awareness of SWAYAM MOOCs among women faculty in Higher Educational Institutions with respect to academic level and type of university; and to study the opinion of women faculty pursuing online courses through SWAYAM MOOCs. The samples have been selected through stratified random sampling from different district’s Higher Education Institutions of North Karnataka. A Google form was prepared and sent to women faculties of different Higher Educational Institutions out of which 81 have been responded. The finding revealed low awareness of SWAYAM MOOCs among women faculty of non technical universities as compared to technical universities. The level of awareness was seen more among assistant professors as compared to associate professors and professors. Most of the women faculty has opined that SWAYAM MOOCs have really advantages as compared to offline courses for their professional development and enrichment.
