Social media has emerged as a powerful medium connecting community, facilitating communication, and enabling the sharing of knowledge on a global scale. Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Reddit have transcended their roles as mere social networking sites. They have become significant public arenas where individuals share personal information and engage with wider communities. Additionally, these platforms have become crucial for entrepreneurs, allowing them to market their products and leverage crowdfunding opportunities. The role of data analytics in social media is substantial, as it gathers and analyzes vast amounts of user data, helping businesses make informed decisions and tailor their strategies. The impact of social media is particularly pronounced among students and young people, shaping their perceptions and attitudes towards human nature. This influence can lead to unintended consequences, such as the development of fanaticism and greed. Therefore, social media serves as a double-edged sword, with the potential to both elevate and degrade individuals from diverse backgrounds. This study examines the changing trends in social media usage among youth, exploring both the positive and negative effects. By understanding these dynamics, we can better appreciate how social media influences young people’s lives and consider strategies to mitigate its adverse impacts while enhancing its benefits.
