Title

A STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PLANNED TEACHING PROGRAMME ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING BREAST SELF EXAMINATION AMONG ADOLESCENT GIRLS STUDYING IN SELECTED SCHOOLS OF AHMEDABAD CITY.

Abstract

Study: A study to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on breast self-examination among the adolescent girls studying in selected schools of Ahmedabadcity. Background: Breast self-examination is a method used in an attempt to detect early breast cancer. The method involves the woman herself looking at and feeling each breast for possible lumps, distortions or swelling. Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme regarding the breast self-examination among adolescent girls and to find out the association between the selected demographic variables with pre-test knowledge score. Methods: A pre experimental group (one group pre-test post-test) design was adopted for collecting the data from 40 samples using a structured knowledge questionnaire comprising 20 question which include knowledge, application and comprehensive domains. Results: According to the findings, the mean post-test knowledge score was significantly higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score with a mean difference of 6.58 The calculated't' (21.658) value was greater than the tabulated 'T' (2) value at level of significance. Therefore the null hypothesis ho was rejected and research hypothesis hl was accepted and it revealed that the planned teaching programme was effective in increasing knowledge among adolescent girls. The finding also revealed that area of residence has a significant association with pre-test knowledge score. Hence, the research hypothesis (h2)was accepted. Conclusion: A study to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on breast self-examination among the adolescent girls studying in selected schools of Ahmedabad city. Then findings clearly indicate that there is still some need of knowledge regarding breast self-examination among the adolescent girls.
